Too Much Trivia in the Pants

Another Year in the Books

§ Tuesday, January 29, 2008 @ 2:55 PM

And, just like that, another year of trivia is in the books. Although we slipped slightly this year from fifth place to sixth, I think that it was a very successful year once again, and I hope everyone had lots of fun. The best compliment we received in a long time was when a group of Plantz kids expressed surprise at the awards ceremony that we aren’t a much larger team. Considering the size and experience advantage that the teams that finish ahead of us have, I personally think we should be quite proud to finish in sixth place while simultaneously enjoying ourselves the way that we do. It sounds like everyone is excited about returning next year, so I think it’s safe to say that Too Much Trivia in the Pants will return for a twelfth consecutive year in 2009.

I want to thank Connemara and Ben for hosting us this year. Our team wouldn’t be able to carry on from year to year without the generosity of our hosts in allowing the team to overrun their domicile for a weekend, and they did a great job of hosting us, as have all of our hosts over the past eleven years.

I want to thank everyone who provided food and beverage to the team this year, be they sponsors, team members, mothers, visitors, friends, or casual observers. Everyone really came through this year, and we didn’t have to make any mid-weekend food runs, which always makes for a better weekend.

I want to thank all of our team members, whether they participated from the War Room or afar; whether they found answers, called in answers, answered phones down at the studio, or participated in the spirit, revelry, and camaraderie of the team; and whether they stayed all weekend or were only able to make a short, cameo appearance. Everyone’s assistance is appreciated and cherished: thank you, thank you, thank you.

I want to thank the Trivia Masters for putting together another successful weekend of trivia. I know you’re still dealing with the growing pains of adjusting to life on the Internet, but you’re making good strides. I also want to plea with next year’s Trivia Masters to relax and enjoy themselves a little more. Too often in recent years—especially this year—you seem to be taking trivia a little too seriously and forgetting the Trivia Credo: “Trivia is meant to be entertainment and should be perceived solely in that light.” Don’t get angry about teams having fun, and, most of all, don’t get so angry over phone jamming. (Not that we condone jamming, but I think most trivia participants appreciate clever and/or amusing jam team names, so please don’t deny the people their fun.) I think you did a good job this year of being lenient and taking lag time for slow Internet connections into account, and I sincerely hope you keep it up. Also, please take the size of teams into account when requesting phone answerers. We were often sending down a person or two to answer phones while down to only three or four team members playing—there’s no reason why teams with thirty, forty, fifty people cannot sacrifice a person to answer phones at all times if we manage to send people down with only a half-dozen playing.

Finally, this year’s photos have been posted, so I recommend everyone go over to the photos page and check them out.

Thanks once again everyone, and I hope you’ll all be back for trivia again next year.

♥ k.

Less Stupider

§ Sunday, January 27, 2008 @ 2:02 PM

We're definitely getting less stupider as the weekend goes on. Wish we could say the same about whoever is operating the sound board down at the studio. (My ears! My ears!)

Coming Back to Life

§ Sunday, January 27, 2008 @ 11:23 AM

We're back up to six people now, including Corey made it here. As if trivia weren't enough of a challenge, Connemara decided to do the Sunday Times crossword puzzle as well. Sheesh.

Not on a Good Streak

§ Sunday, January 27, 2008 @ 2:22 AM

We're down to just three of us, and I'm on the verge of passing out. We could really use some reinforcements right about now. These questions aren't doing any favors in helping to keep me awake either.

Same as last year!

§ Saturday, January 26, 2008 @ 12:09 PM

So, we're currently in 5th place, which happens to be where we finished last year. Also, we just checked in with our good friends at Team 108 who happen to be in 12th place right now, which also happens to be where they finished last year!

Prince Is Annoying?

§ Saturday, January 26, 2008 @ 11:11 AM

If listening to Prince is supposed to be annoying enough to get us to send more phone answers, then we might not send anybody the rest of the contest. Go Chanhassen!

(Or, as Ben said, "I didn't pull an all-nighter to listen to Prince.")

Comments Working

§ Saturday, January 26, 2008 @ 10:52 AM

Sorry everyone about the comments not working, but I think they should be working now. My apologies for the error.

Trivia Is Here!

§ Friday, January 25, 2008 @ 12:49 PM

Hello once again everyone. We’re down to less than ten hours now until this year’s trivia contest commences. Going into this year’s contest we know that it will be difficult to repeat the kind of success that we had last year (1145 points, 5th place), but we’ll try our best even with our limited personnel.

There will be a little extra space in the War Room this year, as many long-time team members are either unable to make it this weekend or will be limited to short cameo appearances as their work schedules permit. For those unable to make it back this year, I hope you get an opportunity to follow along throughout the weekend, and we shall do our best to keep the Web site updated so you can follow our progress.

We as a team want to thank Dr. Jekyll’s for sponsoring us once again this year. We’ll be meeting up there for some pre-trivia merrymaking tonight sometime between 7:00 and 8:00. Everyone is invited to stop on down and grab a drink with us before dispersing to our various hovels for the weekend. We will then begin assembling in the War Room starting at 9:00 tonight in preparation for the contest.

We also want to thank all of our mothers who are making delicious food for us this weekend. Your generosity in keeping us fed has long been vital to a successful weekend, and we thank you all.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible this weekend, and best of luck to all of the other teams that are participating this year.

Trivia XLIII Is Approaching Quickly

§ Wednesday, January 16, 2008 @ 12:45 AM

Hello everyone! It has been a long time since we last posted an entry here, but I wanted to assure all of you that Too Much Trivia in the Pants is returning for our eleventh consecutive year in the contest. After the success of last year, how could we not return for another year?

For all of you team members who have not checked your e-mail or MySpace accounts recently, I suggest you check you inboxes, as I sent out this year’s annual trivia e-mail, and I want to make sure you have the info about this year’s location.

And, for those who haven’t heard, I’ll be home for a whole week for trivia, so feel free to give me a call any time from the Wednesday before trivia through the Wednesday after, as I hope to meet up with as many of you as possible.

Oh, and one more thing: we are planning to meet up with some other teams for drinks on Friday night before the contest as has become our routine, so all team members interested in the details should e-mail or text message me before then, and I’ll be sure to let you the details of when and where.

♥ k.
